Apigee hybrid 1.17.0 puts MCP tools in the customer cluster
Google writes that MCP traffic stays in the cluster and that no connection starts from Google Cloud.
Google released Apigee hybrid 1.17.0 on September 14, 2026. The release adds Model Context Protocol (MCP). The MCP data plane is at this time in the Kubernetes cluster of the customer. MCP is a standard that lets AI agents find and use tools. Google writes that MCP traffic stays in the cluster. The control plane does not start a connection into the customer network.
