Mistral releases Large 4 with 1.05 trillion parameters
The open weights come on October 31, and the API price is lower than the price of GPT-5.5.
On October 6, Mistral AI showed Mistral Large 4, a multimodal model with 1.05 trillion parameters in total. Mistral says that 49 billion parameters are active for each token. A preview is open in the API at this time, at $1.36 for each million input tokens. Mistral will release the open weights on October 31. The company did not give the license terms.
How it works
Large 4 uses a mixture-of-experts structure. This shows that only some parts of the model work on each token. Mistral says that the model also has a long context window.
The price
Large 4 is $1.36 for each million input tokens and $4.18 for each million output tokens. GPT-5.5 is $5.00 and $30.00 for the same units.
The company says that the model is first on AutomationBench. This test is for workflow automation. The price for each task is about one fifth of the price of other models.
The limits
The model is behind the closed models Claude Opus 5 and GPT-5.5 on hard reasoning and agent tests.
On the Artificial Analysis index, the model is below DeepSeek 4.1 Flash. Simon Willison says that the API has only two reasoning levels, “none” and “high”.
What is not known
Mistral did not give the license terms, and the final terms are not known.
