Censys finds 63% more AI software on the internet in 9 months
Industrial control systems on the internet show only 4% more in 2.5 years.
Censys, a company that scans the internet, found 63% more AI software on public IP addresses. The count went from 164,088 addresses in October 2025 to 267,915 in July 2026. The change is in 44 different tools, and it took place in 9 months. In the same data, other parts of the internet changed much more slowly.
What changed fast
n8n is a workflow automation platform that connects AI agents to other services. Some n8n servers report a version. Of these, 76.1% use a release with a vulnerability that has a score of 9.0 or more.
These servers keep the credentials for the services that their workflows connect to.
One fast example
OpenClaw is a self-hosted AI agent. Its first release with a control panel came in January 2026. By April, Censys found 85,478 public panels.
What changed slowly
- Legacy versions of 4 business tools stay online.
- Owners of industrial control systems are hard to find.
- Registration records show the carrier, not the operator.
About 70% of the industrial control hosts are on consumer and mobile networks, frequently behind cellular modems at remote sites.
