Forter launches tools to control AI agents on merchant sites
Forter says that purchases by AI agents increased four times since August 2026. It says that fraud by bots increased two times.
On 13 October 2026, Forter launched the Agentic Commerce Engine in New York. The tools help merchants find, control and sell to AI agents that buy for a person. The fraud tool is live for existing Forter customers. Forter offers the checkout tool to customers who want it. Forter gave no test results from an external group.
What it does
The engine has three parts:
- A fraud tool tells good AI assistants from bad bots in real time.
- A checkout tool lets merchants set rules for each sale, with no code.
- A dashboard shows which agents buy on the site.
The numbers
Forter did a controlled test. Agent protocols, which are shared rules for a purchase with no web page, were about 10 times as fast as screen scraping. Forter says that their token use was 5 times that of screen scraping.
Screen scraping means that an agent reads the web page. A token is a unit of text that an AI reads. Forter reported these numbers itself.
The risk
Data from PYMNTS and Visa shows that 93% of merchants think the AI provider must pay for incorrect purchases.
At this time, some large insurers add terms to their policies that keep AI losses out. Fewer than 11% of small merchants are prepared for AI agents.
What to do
Merchants must find out which agents visit their site. They must read their policy for AI losses before the holiday peak. It is not known if the tools work at peak volume.
