Dream Labs raises $90M seed for one AI model for many robots

Dream API lets developers use one model on low-cost robots from different makers, but it handles only tabletop tasks at this time.

Claimed, not confirmed

Dream Labs, a San Francisco startup started in 2026 by former NVIDIA robotics researchers, announced $90 million in seed funding on 19 October. B Capital and Kindred Ventures led it. Dream API changes the video from a robot camera and a plain-English instruction into commands for the robot motors. The company says a new robot can do useful work in minutes.

How it works

Dream-1 learns from video of persons who do everyday tasks. It predicts what happens next and works out the step for the robot. Developers can connect a robot to the API. They can also send a small batch of demonstration data and get a tailored model in hours. Forbes reports a price from $3 an hour.

The proof

The source gives no success rates for Dream-1. In February 2026, the team published a paper on a 14-billion-parameter model. It adapted to a new robot with 30 minutes of play data. Anyone can type commands to a robot in the company office in a browser.

What is not known

Dream-1 handles tabletop tasks only, for example to pick up and put down objects. Mobile robots and dexterous hands come after. Founder Joel Jang says the next test is if mistakes become less frequent as more robots connect.

Insight: Dream Labs sells the robot brain, not the robot

Skild AI raised about $1.4 billion and Rhoda AI raised $450 million for robot models. Dream Labs raised $90 million and aims at robots that cost $2,000 to $10,000, with more than 20 hardware partners. This looks like a bet on a shared layer: if many cheap makers connect, the owner of the brain sets the price. Monitor if rivals that own hardware or data keep this layer.
