Muse, the Meta agent, gets 10.9 million downloads since 8 September
Sensor Tower says US ChatGPT downloads fell 25% in 30 days. It says Muse reached 2.5 million daily users on 16 October.
Meta launched its Muse AI agent, which can complete purchases for a user, on 8 September. Sensor Tower, a data company, says Muse has 10.9 million downloads, and more than 10.2 million are in the US. Only 11 other apps reached 10 million US downloads in 40 days or less. The most recent was Threads in July 2023.
How it works
Muse is a phone app that can complete transactions on its own. Deutsche Bank analyst Benjamin Black says Muse is free to use for the most part. He says it is always on, in its own virtual machine.
The numbers
Sensor Tower estimates 2.5 million daily active users. US downloads of ChatGPT in the last 30 days fell 25% from the 30 days before. Black sees Muse at about $36 billion in sales by 2030 in his high estimate. His low estimate is $2.4 billion.
What is not known
The source gives no revenue number for Muse today. The sales numbers are forecasts by one analyst. Meta will report earnings on Wednesday, after the market closes.
Insight: Free agent growth has a cost for websites
DataDome, a bot defense company, says Muse made 33% of agentic browser traffic in nine days. It says Muse does not tell a site that it is an AI agent. OpenAI sells Dots at $100 a month. Meta gives Muse away. This seems to be a race for the user. Meta gets scale first, and sites pay for agents that give no name. Look for sites that stop or charge such agents.
