Pichai reports that Gemini 4 Argon used 25 trillion tokens in 72 hours

Google does not have sufficient capacity for the need, and it makes efficient versions of the model to give access to more users.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, told an interviewer that Gemini 4 Argon processed almost 25 trillion tokens in its first 72 hours. A token is a small piece of text that a model reads or writes. Gemini 3 processed about one third of this in the same period last year. Pichai tells that Google has limits on capacity.

What is new

Pichai tells that Google puts the skills of its business agents in the consumer tool. An agent is software that does tasks for you. He describes “one box” for a chat, a task on a schedule, or work that continues in the background. He promises wider access in the next months.

The numbers

The token figures come from Pichai. No other group checked them. Google has negative free cash flow, which is cash that is left after costs. Pichai tells that long contracts with committed revenue hold the spending. “It is not hope only,” he tells.

What is not known

Google gave no date for the efficient versions. Pichai tells that the first pilot of Project Suncatcher, a plan for AI data centers in space, goes correctly. He gave no data. He talks about a horizon of 10 to 20 years.

Insight: Agents that work all day make the capacity shortage worse

Pichai tells that Argon used 3 times the tokens of Gemini 3, and Google plans agents that work around the clock. Google also tells that its Gemini Agent costs Workspace customers no more fee. In one test, Argon worked 11 hours with no person. This reads as a bet that Google gives agent work at a flat price and pays for the capacity itself. Buyers maybe will see limits or fees then.
