Google Cloud adds a Claude deployment that Anthropic operates
The price is the same in the 2 alternatives. The data processor and the time to get new functions are different.
Google Cloud made one more type of Claude deployment available to all customers. In this alternative, Anthropic operates the deployment on Google Cloud equipment. Google keeps its first alternative, where Google operates the deployment. The 2 alternatives give the same models on the first day, the same price and the same Google Cloud bill. The alternative that you select sets which company keeps your data.
How they differ
In the Anthropic alternative, Anthropic is the data processor. This is the company that keeps and uses your data. You sign in with Google Cloud identity tools and keep audit logs. New Claude Platform functions are available on the first day.
In the Google alternative, Google is the data processor, in your contract. It gives data location in the US, EU and APAC (Asia Pacific), and encryption keys that the customer controls. New Claude Platform functions come after Google adds them.
The proof
Google gave no test results and no numbers on use. The claim is about selection, not speed. Google says the 2 alternatives give 4 Claude models, which include Fable 5.1 and Opus 5.5.
What is not known
Google gave no dates for when the Google alternative gets each new function. Claude Managed Agents, the agent platform of Anthropic, is in beta test.
Insight: Google hosts a rival model and keeps the bill
On 8 October 2026, Google showed a Gemini Agent that can select Claude as its model. At this time Anthropic can operate its deployment in Google Cloud. This seems to be a toll gate: Google lets Anthropic operate the software, but keeps identity, billing and money commitments. Monitor which alternative large customers select.
