OpenAI is near an investment of at most $30 billion
The primary investors are from the UAE. OpenAI also negotiates for more computing capacity from the UAE.
Claimed, not confirmed
OpenAI is near an investment of at most $30 billion at a value of $1.25 trillion. Persons who know the deal say this, and they did not give their names. Investors from the UAE and Coatue are the primary investors. OpenAI told investors on Thursday that it wants signatures by the end of next week.
What is in the deal
The value does not include the new money. Persons who know the deal say the investment is a bridge before a possible IPO (initial public offering, the first sale of shares to the public). The CFO, Sarah Friar, told employees that the IPO will come in 2027. OpenAI has sent secret documents for an IPO.
The proof
OpenAI and the investors did not say that the numbers are correct. They come from persons who did not give their names. There is no agreed deal at this time.
What is not known
The total of the investment is open. The computing deal with the UAE is not agreed. Markets are not sure. There are questions about CoreWeave and about money when interest rates increase. An IPO of Anthropic, if it comes, is one more test of investor interest.
Insight: The investor may also be the supplier
The UAE investors are primary investors, and OpenAI negotiates with the UAE for more computing capacity. OpenAI must have money and computing capacity. This seems to make the investor a supplier too. The UAE can get a stake in OpenAI and a customer for its capacity. Monitor if the computing deal comes with the investment.
