56% of companies cut security roles because of AI, Barracuda reports
The cuts are equal at entry level and top level, but almost all companies report missing skills.
Barracuda has a new report: the Cybersecurity Skills Gap Report. It reports that 56% of companies had staff cuts related to AI. The cuts are equal at entry level and top level. Almost all of the companies also report missing skills, most of all in AI risks. The report summary gives no count of the companies.
What changes
Barracuda thinks AI will do more usual analysis, connect related events and give responses in the next 12 months. Persons will then examine hard attacks, check AI results and make decisions in incidents.
The numbers
- 56% had cuts related to AI.
- 69% use AI with persons who make decisions in incident response.
- 50% report that teams must do more digital work with no more resources.
What is not known
The report does not show that AI caused the cuts. Barracuda tells that cuts of entry level roles give new persons less work to do. Companies must find new procedures for new investigators and incident leaders to get skills.
Insight: Companies cut the persons who check the AI
Barracuda reports cuts in 56% of companies, but persons keep the last decision in incident response. A ServiceNow study found that 88% of UK companies had an agent incident. Only 23% have one owner of agent rules. Companies cut the persons who check AI while the work increases, which reads as a risk in the last decision. Leaders must name who holds it.
