Google gives Gemini 4 Argon to subscribers, with 15% hallucination
Google reports a 15% hallucination rate for Argon on one test, but output prices double in December.
Google gives Gemini 4 Argon, its new top model for hard tasks, to subscribers of Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra. At the end of September, only a small group of trusted cyber defenders had it. On the AA-Omniscience test, Argon has a 15% hallucination rate. A hallucination is an incorrect answer that the model gives as if it is correct. GPT-6 Astra has 51% on the same test.
What is new
Argon replaces Gemini 3.1 Pro from February 2026. Google says teams use it for software work, business tasks, cyber defense and science. In one example, Google used Argon to make Chrome crash less.
Free users get only 3.5 Flash-Lite after a cut.
The numbers
The AA-Omniscience test has 6,000 questions. A test by MindStudio puts Argon first for business, legal and finance tasks. It puts Argon behind other new models for code, command-line tasks, general knowledge and 3D graphics.
What is not known
No one is named as the group that ran the AA-Omniscience test. Output prices are low and double in December. Argon can hallucinate also.
Insight: Low prices now may be a way to win users before December
Sundar Pichai, the Google CEO, told an interviewer that Argon used almost 25 trillion tokens in 72 hours. Pichai told that Google does not have sufficient capacity. Google also cut free access, and output prices double in December. This reads as a race to win users while the price is low and to charge more after that. Leaders must get price terms in writing.
