Salesforce sets a registration rule for external AI agents

The price of agent work is not set, but the registration prepares a fee for the work of external agents.

Salesforce, a company with a platform for customer records, will make its customers do the registration of external AI agents that use its APIs (software connections) or its MCP servers (a standard connection between agents and tools). The name of the system is Agentic Identity, and the date is November 2026. Each agent has an identity and a set of permissions, with more limits than the permissions of a person who is a user.

How it works

The dates are not the same for each customer:

  • New customers that get Salesforce after 17 September 2026 do the registration in three months or less after notice.
  • Existing customers do the registration for agents that use APIs when the contract has a renewal.
  • All users of the MCP servers do the registration in three months or less after notice.

The money

Registration also prepares a fee for external agent work. The fee can be in Flex Credits. Salesforce has not set the price. It will not bill agents until it gives 30 days of notice. Investors gave a good reaction, and customers have mixed views.

What is not known

The cost is open, and fees are the problem for customers. The company gave no numbers. Customers that made work around external AI tools can face cost that was not in their budget.

Insight: Agent registration is becoming a toll gate

Salesforce will do the registration of external agents and can meter them. American Express gives cover to a card holder for an agent error only if the agent has a registration with it. This reads as a move to control the agent registration, because the one that controls it can set the rules and the price. Expect a negotiation about agent cost at renewal.
