IBM tool gives each AI agent an owner and a limit
The IBM tool gives each agent an owner and access for one task only, but IBM gave no test results.
IBM says that its Agent Identity tool is open to all customers. The tool keeps one record of the AI agents and shows who owns each one. It limits each agent to access for its one task. IBM made it with its IBM Verify software and HashiCorp Vault, a tool that keeps passwords and keys safe. IBM gave no test results.
How it works
IBM says that the tool records each agent with its owner and its risk level. The record shows which person the agent works for.
Each agent gets a token, an access key that stops after one task. Vault gives keys at the time of use to systems that cannot use tokens.
The proof
IBM gave no numbers and no test results. IBM says that the tool gives less risk and clear records of each step. These come from IBM only.
What is not known
IBM gives no price and no count of customers. IBM says that the tool works with the identity tools that a company has.
For agents made in watsonx Orchestrate, the IBM agent builder, it shows an easy start. It does not say how agents from other makers work.
Insight: Many vendors race to be the gate for AI agents
Four firms showed an open identity method for agents on 14 October. Descope and World released tools for the same task on 15 and 18 October. IBM adds its tool. This reads as a race to be the gate that each agent must go through. The first gate that a company uses can set its rules. Leaders must select a method first.
