Microsoft puts its many Copilot tools into one app
Paid seats of Microsoft 365 Copilot went above 30 million, but only 18% of workers prefer it when ChatGPT is also available.
Microsoft changed its AI leaders to make one Copilot app for personal life and for work. A Microsoft executive tells that the app ends the period of many different tools with the name Copilot. At this time, only a test group can use parts of the app, in a private preview, and Microsoft gave no date for general release.
How it works
Charles Lamanna tells that one Copilot will work in chat, in code and in document tools. The displays can be different, but the same Copilot is behind them.
Lamanna also tells that Copilot must be the Costco of AI: much AI at a low cost.
The numbers
In July, Satya Nadella told that Microsoft 365 Copilot had more than 30 million paid seats. In April the number was 20 million.
A survey found that only 18% of workers prefer Copilot if their employer also gives access to ChatGPT. Lamanna wants 400 million to 500 million users.
What is not known
Microsoft gave no release date for the app. A count of paid seats does not show use. Mustafa Suleyman, head of Microsoft AI, tells that Microsoft must have top AI models, tuned to its tools.
Insight: One Copilot app may become the door partners must use
Zoom opened its data to the AI assistant of Microsoft. Microsoft puts that assistant into one app. This reads as a move to be the one door where staff start AI work, and partners must connect to that door. The first door that staff use can set the conditions for partners. Leaders must check which door their staff use.
