Anthropic lists child safety lawsuits in its prospectus
Anthropic bars children from Claude, but it raised child safety lawsuits as an issue for buyers of its shares.
Attorneys general of US states and private lawyers have started lawsuits against OpenAI. They say the design of ChatGPT can put children at risk. The suits are a risk for OpenAI, as it plans to sell shares. Anthropic plans to sell shares to the public this month. It named the issue in its prospectus, the document for persons who buy shares.
How the suits work
The plaintiffs use the methods of suits against social media companies. They say the design of ChatGPT can put children at risk. OpenAI faces more than one of these suits.
The proof
The facts give no number of suits and no court result. Michele Neitz, a law professor, says tech companies see more legal risk than ten years before.
What is not known
Chatbots are very personal. Blocker says it is not possible to know the words they give to children. Blocker tells that makers must test products for child safety from the start. Blocker wants the suits cause change in law and in company decisions.
Insight: Anthropic shows that a ban on children does not remove the risk
In October 2026, eight US states started lawsuits against OpenAI about ChatGPT. Texas sued OpenAI and Sam Altman and wants a maximum of $10,000 for each violation. Anthropic bars children but lists the issue, and this reads as a legal cost for all large chatbot makers. Leaders must add the legal risk of a vendor to the buy decision.
