Google opens its Connected Apps Platform to developers in the US
Businesses can send apps to Gemini and Search, but only developers in the US get the beta.
Google started the Connected Apps Platform as a preview. A business or developer can send an app that users get in Gemini and Search. Google tells that more than 50 such apps are live in Gemini. They come to Search in some weeks. The beta is only for developers in the US. Google gives no date for a release to more users.
How it works
A developer connects an app through a cloud MCP server or through Android MCP. MCP is a standard connection between an app and an AI agent.
Then the developer uses the Google Connected Console to add, test and send the app. The developer selects Search or the Gemini app, or selects each of them.
What the owner sees
After launch, the developer sees traffic, speed and error rates. The developer keeps control of the brand, such as logos and accounts that Google checks. The meditation app Calm is a new partner.
What is not known
Google gives no date for a release to more users. It gives no number of users. It is not known how many users will select connected apps.
Insight: Google builds both ends of the agent connection on one standard
On 27 October 2026, Oracle and Google connected Oracle data to Gemini agents with an MCP server. At this time, Google gives app owners the same standard to get users in Gemini and Search. This reads as a move to be between company data and the user, as a gate for all. Leaders must select where their business connects.
