Sarvam got 87% of the $399 million Indic AI funding in 2026
The other Indic AI companies got only $54 million, which shows that investors back one company.
Tracxn tracks start-up data. It says that Sarvam got $345 million of the $399 million that AI companies for Indian languages got in 2026. Sarvam makes large AI models in India. The share is 87%. It closed 2 funding rounds, of $255 million and $90 million. Tracxn says investors select some companies that they think can become large.
What the report shows
Sarvam has HCLTech and Nvidia as backers. It plans a model with 1 trillion parameters (the numbers that a model learns) in 6 months. It also plans an office in San Francisco to find AI talent.
The numbers
- The other companies got $54 million in 7 funding rounds.
- They got $23 million in the year before.
- The market got $657 million in total since October 2021.
What is not known
Tracxn says a government order of the US on 12 June stopped access to 2 models of Anthropic. It says this gave a boost to national models. Access then came back. The report says the first late-stage round for a company other than Sarvam will show who can scale.
Insight: Governments pay for home models after the June order
Tracxn says that Sarvam is one of 4 national model picks of the government of India. The government of Korea plans $3.5 billion for a top AI project from March 2027. This reads as a race between governments to have a national model, since access to a model that a different government controls can end. Look for a different Indic company with a late-stage round.
