Thrive Holdings agrees to buy ADT for $15.3 billion

The $15.3 billion ADT deal, with debt, shows that AI investors buy full service firms and change them.

On 29 October 2026, Thrive Holdings agreed to buy ADT, a home security firm, for $15.3 billion with debt. ADT, which reports the deal, installs and monitors alarms for homes and small firms, and it had about 6.1 million subscribers at the end of 2025. Thrive buys accounting and computer service firms and changes their work with AI.

What Thrive gets

Thrive engineers will work with ADT staff to find where technology can make products and service better. Partner Kareem Zaki reports that Thrive has the capital and patience to invest for decades. ADT uses AI virtual agents in its call centers. It solves more than 90% of technical issues from a distance.

Other buyers

Long Lake, which General Catalyst backs, made 40 purchases in two and a half years. It uses one AI platform in all of them. Lightspeed Venture Partners raised more than $750 million to buy eight to 10 firms and upgrade them with AI.

What is not known

The sources give no result of AI at Thrive firms. General Catalyst gives its own figures for Long Lake. In a survey of 60 US finance chiefs, 75% judge AI by margin.

Insight: Investors buy the firm, not the AI tool

OpenAI took a stake in Thrive in December 2025 and supplies engineers to its firms. Banks also post more jobs that name agent control, in Draup data. This looks like a race to own the customer. The AI maker gets a position in used firms before rivals sell software. Look for more buyouts of service firms.
