ADNOC made an agreement with OpenAI and G42 for AI agents

ADNOC tells that the new system can make a full field plan in hours, not months.

ADNOC is the oil company of the Abu Dhabi government. It made an agreement for many years with OpenAI and G42, which gives computing infrastructure in the UAE. The agreement puts AI agents in its operations. Sam Altman, the chief executive of OpenAI, was in the UAE at the time. The companies did not tell the value or the date of the roll-out.

How it works

OpenAI models will work with the data of ADNOC from its operations. The systems will operate on computing equipment that G42 gives in the UAE.

OpenAI Frontier is a platform to make and manage AI agents. ADNOC is the first energy company to use it. The first use is the plan for the development of oil and gas fields. A person stays in charge of primary decisions.

The numbers

ADNOC tells that a full plan can be ready in hours. At this time the same work is months long. ADNOC tells that more than 40,000 employees use ChatGPT Enterprise. The companies gave no test result for the new system.

What is not known

The companies gave no price and no start date. The agreement also includes cybersecurity work and training for staff. Reuters told that ExxonMobil and Chevron stopped plans to send executives to the conference, because of safety.

Insight: OpenAI sells a full set, not only a model

The agreement includes a platform, computing equipment in the UAE, cybersecurity work and training. On 11 October 2026, POSCO DX gave 2 billion won to Enhance to test agents at sites for production. This reads as a full set from OpenAI, and a customer that gets all of it can find it hard to change supplier. Leaders must check which parts they can move.
