Instinct AI agent went silent on WhatsApp after a payment fault
Founder Noah Shinn blames a configuration fault that stopped a payment to a supplier, and says the agent works again.
Instinct is a personal AI agent that books flights and buys groceries in chat apps. It stopped answers to users on WhatsApp on 1 November. Shinn says a configuration fault at the company interrupted a payment to one of its suppliers. Shinn says messages sent in the outage were received. The invite-only startup raised $1 billion in September at a $10 billion valuation.
What happened
Users said the agent stopped. Some persons on social media guessed that Meta, which owns WhatsApp, had cut off Instinct.
Shinn says the company contacts the users who got no answer. Shinn says it makes changes to prevent a new outage.
The background
In January 2026, Meta forced OpenAI and Microsoft to end their AI assistants on WhatsApp. WhatsApp added new terms for third-party AI agents in August 2026. Meta has its own agent, Muse. It had more than 10 million users in the US and Canada in six weeks.
What is not known
The only account is from Shinn. The reports have no comment from Meta. The company gave no information on the fault, the supplier or the length of the outage.
Insight: A rival owns the road that Instinct uses
Instinct sells in WhatsApp, which Meta owns. Meta pushed out other assistants, set new terms in August 2026, and operates the rival Muse. This reads as a toll gate. One rumor that Meta cut it off worried users, and the platform owner holds control. Look for Instinct to use iMessage more.
