Pangram tells of a new detector with 99.96% precision on AI images
The result comes from a test that Pangram made, and the text names no external check of it.
Pangram, a company that makes tools to find AI content, released Pangram Image 1.0 and Pangram Image Flash 1.0. The first model finds AI images and gives a heatmap, a color map of the AI parts. The second model is smaller and faster, and it finds AI video. Pangram tells us that Image 1.0 has a result of 99.96% on its test of 1,200 AI images.
How it works
Image 1.0 shows where the AI content is in a photo. Flash 1.0 looks at a video frame by frame. Pangram also added video upload, an API (a link for software to use the tool) and a Chrome extension that flags AI content when you scroll.
The numbers
- Image test: 1,200 AI images made from photos. Result: 99.96%.
- Video test: DF26, a study by other researchers. Flash has 98.7%, which is 29 points more than the next best detector.
- The smallest image size is now 256x256 pixels.
What is not known
Pangram made the image test. It tells us that the model resists blur, noise and compression, but it gives no number for this. Results for images below 512 pixels come with a warning of low confidence.
Insight: Detector scores depend on who builds the test
Pangram has 99.96% on a test that it made. In October 2026, a test of 16 open detectors gave a top mean of 75.0%. The newest generators gave 18 to 30%. Each maker chooses the test, and a score tells less than it seems. The user who makes its own test has control. Test each detector on the generators that your risk comes from.
