GPT-6.1 Terra is available in GitHub Copilot
GitHub tells that GPT-6.1 Terra solved more terminal and C# tasks than GPT-5.6 Terra in a short test, at a lower cost than GPT-6.1 Sol.
GitHub opened GPT-6.1 Terra, the new model of OpenAI, to all users of GitHub Copilot, its AI coding assistant. The model is for coding tasks that teams do each day. It also does terminal work. It has a lower cost than GPT-6.1 Sol. It works in short steps on tasks that have clear limits. Users of the Pro, Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise plans can select it.
What is new
Users select the model in the model picker, in ten areas, from code editors to the GitHub website and mobile apps. The rollout is slow. The price is the list price of the provider, with usage-based billing.
The proof
GitHub tells that in a short test the model solved more terminal and C# tasks than GPT-5.6 Terra Terra. It gave no numbers and no test names.
Cost and control
GitHub gave no price. Administrators of Copilot Business and Enterprise control access in the model policy. New models start by default. An administrator can stop the default for all models or stop this model.
Insight: Copilot is becoming a shelf where rival models compete
On 13 October, Copilot added Gemini 4 Argon. At this time it adds GPT-6.1 Terra, with the list price of the provider. Copilot reads as a shelf for models from other companies. Control can move to the tool that holds the picker. Teams that use one model can test other models in the same tool.
