Zocdoc lets approved AI agents book patient appointments
Zocdoc says that traffic from AI agents on its site grew almost 30 times since July.
Zocdoc, an online company that books doctor visits, said on Wednesday that AI agents can search for providers and book visits for patients. Agents must apply and get patient consent before they book or cancel. Google Gemini, Amazon Health AI and Instinct are in the system. Other agents can apply for access, with or without the help of a person.
How it works
An approved agent connects to the AI backend of Zocdoc. It can search the provider directory, check availability, make sure of insurance and book, after it checks with the patient. The companies that operate the agents can earn money from the connection. Agents must not train on the data, sell it or publish it again.
The proof
The one number is the growth in agent traffic, and it comes from Zocdoc. The source gives no test results on precision or safety. The founder and CEO Oliver Kharraz calls the open welcome “a bit of a contrarian move”.
What is not known
Zocdoc did not say how it will make sure that agents obey the data rules. Other health tech companies tell of privacy and governance risks.
Insight: Zocdoc wants to be the gate for health agents
In September, Zocdoc put its scheduling into external apps and AI tools. Earlier this month it bought Sohar Health, which checks insurance benefits. On 20 October 2026, Invoca agents booked visits in provider systems. This looks like Zocdoc choosing to be the gate that external agents must use, with rules it sets. Providers: find which gates are on the path to your patients.
