Google will put AI agents in the app of 1 billion Gemini users

Google says the agents will book and fill in documents, while its 2026 capital plan stays at $195 billion to $205 billion.

On 28 October 2026, the Google CEO Sundar Pichai told investors on an earnings call that agents will go to consumers this year. The first group is the 1 billion users of the Gemini app. The agents make reservations, fill in documents and set appointments. Google gave no test results for them, and it gave no date for the start.

What is new

Pichai said agents will work as one layer across Chrome, Android, Workspace, Search and Gemini. Google first made them for companies, because these buyers have high safety rules.

Google says its Universal Commerce Protocol is a checkout system for hundreds of thousands of brands.

The numbers

Alphabet revenue increased 25% to $127.6 billion. Net income went down to $26.2 billion from $35 billion.

Google Cloud revenue more than doubled to $30.7 billion. The finance chief said capital costs will increase much in 2027.

What is not known

Google gave no date for the consumer launch. Philipp Schindler said users want more than one alternative. Schindler said Google sees room for advertisements in agent comparisons.

Insight: Google wants to own the checkout gate for agents

Google gives agents a checkout system and a payments protocol. A different firm, Extend, says card networks have no rule for agent purchases. Google also sees advertisements in agent comparisons. This reads as a plan to control the gate that agent purchases use, and to sell space at the gate. Retailers must select to use it or to make a different one.
