Google starts Dreambeans in India with 13 local languages

Sensor Tower, a market firm, estimates that downloads in the US fell 84 percent in October, to about 5,500.

On Monday, Google started Dreambeans in India. India is the first market for the app other than the US. Dreambeans is a test app for Android and iOS. It reads the data of the user from Google services. It makes stories with images about the life of the user, without input from the user. It has 13 languages of India and English.

How it works

The user connects Google services. The Personal Intelligence technology of Google uses that data to make the stories. A video model turns images into video in some stories. A user can select only one language for each story. A story cannot mix Hindi and English.

The numbers

Sensor Tower estimates about 55,000 downloads in the US since June. In October, downloads fell 84 percent. In the first 30 days after the US opening, the app had about 29,000 downloads. Muse of Meta had 7.4 million in the first 30 days. Muse is a general chat app, and Dreambeans is not.

What is not known

Gozde Oznur, a Google manager, tells that users can disconnect services, erase data and stop subjects. Only the holder of the account sees the stories. The app can show stories about persons who died. Google gave no date for a tool that lets the app do tasks.

Insight: Google tests if account data can pull users

Google selected India because many users there use Gemini, Gmail and Photos together. In the US, downloads fell 84 percent after the September opening. Google also tells that it will look for a tool that lets users do tasks. This reads as a bet that data from many services, not the model, is the edge that rivals cannot copy. Look for story cards that book or buy.
