Microsoft opens SharePoint tools to all agents in a preview

In tests by Microsoft, the success rate of tasks increased from 70.1% to 84.6%, and the tests used 16% less tokens.

Microsoft put SharePoint tools in Work IQ, the layer behind Microsoft 365 Copilot, in a public preview. SharePoint is software of Microsoft that keeps files and lists for the work of companies. Agents such as GitHub Copilot CLI, VS Code or a team agent can use more than 60 operations to find, make and share content.

How it works

An agent finds a SharePoint path when it operates, reads its schema and uses it. Each use operates as the signed-in user, and an admin selects which tasks an agent can do. 2 new scopes limit the access: one scope is to read, and one is to make or move content.

The numbers

These results come from tests by Microsoft only. Against use of Microsoft Graph without the tools, the success rate is at most 77% more, and it changes with the task.

What is not known

No other group made tests of the tools. Microsoft bills the tools by use with Copilot Credits, and not in the license of Microsoft 365 Copilot. Microsoft gives no price.

Insight: Microsoft opens SharePoint to all agents and bills by use

A survey found that only 18% of workers want Copilot more than ChatGPT if ChatGPT is also available. At this time, SharePoint tools work for all agents, and Microsoft bills them by use. This reads as a way to get payment from company data when workers use a different assistant. The gate moves from the license to the data. Leaders must monitor the use of credits.
