Amdocs buys insurance software firm EIS for $340 million
Amdocs will add its AI control software to insurance, but it has shown no results for insurance.
Amdocs, a telecom software provider, has bought EIS for about $340 million in cash. EIS, in San Francisco, sells insurance software for policies, billing, claims and customer contact. Amdocs plans to add aOS, its AI control software from telecom. It lets AI agents, which are software that does tasks without a person, work in the primary systems of insurers.
What Amdocs gets
The deal gives Amdocs an insurance platform, insurer customers and knowledge of insurance rules. aOS sits above the systems of insurers, with a person who checks it. The announcement tells that aOS will extend into insurance, not that it runs there at this time.
The numbers
- Price: about $340 million in cash.
- More payments follow if targets are met, but the targets are not shown.
- Amdocs had revenue of about $4.70 billion in the last year.
What is not known
The companies gave no plan for how aOS and the AI tools of EIS will work together. They gave no claims results or measured results. To see claim data is different from a claim payment.
Insight: Amdocs paid for insurance records, not for the AI
Amdocs buys the policy, billing and claims systems in which its agents must work. A general AI platform cannot supply them. In October, IBM added a gateway that controls agents from other firms. This reads as two choices to get the same customers: hold the records, or hold the control layer above agents. Look for which one insurers trust with payments.
