Gemini app makes and edits files in the chat
Only the PDF tool works on mobile, and all other file types work on the web only.
Google added a tool to the Gemini app that makes, shows and edits files in the chat. A user can make documents, PDF files, presentations, spreadsheets, Markdown files, text files and code. The user then opens a file in full screen and edits it. All users in all languages of the app have the tool. Google gave no test results.
How it works
A user tells Gemini to make a file, then opens it in full screen. The user can type edits, mark text and tell Gemini what to do with it, or tell Gemini to change the file. In the example from Google, Gemini makes a PDF from notes that the user wrote by hand.
The proof
Google gave no test results and no numbers on use. It shows one video example.
What is not known
Google did not tell how correctly Gemini keeps layout when it edits a file. It also did not tell where it keeps the files or who can see them.
Insight: Gemini is becoming the place where work files live
On 28 October 2026, the Google CEO told investors that agents will complete documents for 1 billion app users. Before this, Google released Deep Review to examine long documents. This reads as a move to keep users and files in one app for agents to use. Select which files staff can put in the app.
