Microsoft adds Mistral Large 4 and OCR 4 to its Foundry platform

Microsoft is the first cloud provider to offer Mistral Large 4 in public preview, and the source gives no test results.

Mistral Large 4 is available to all from Mistral, a French AI company. Microsoft says it will offer the open weight model in Foundry, its platform to make and operate AI, in the next few days. It is the first cloud provider to do this in public preview. Mistral OCR 4, which reads documents and gets their data, is also available to all in Foundry.

What is new

Large 4 is for reasoning, coding, cybersecurity and agent work, with text and image input. Microsoft says Foundry gives one layer for tests, rules and operations. Blackbox AI, a safe coding platform, is an first user.

The numbers

The source gives no test results, price or date. Microsoft says only that Large 4 is a model made in Europe, for companies that must control their data and where it operates.

What is not known

The source does not give the terms for Foundry customers. A leader at Blackbox AI says the model gives more alternatives with no loss of trust. That is a claim by an first user.

Insight: Free weights, paid doors

On 29 October 2026, Mistral put the Large 4 weights on Hugging Face with a modified MIT license. Companies can use them with no revenue limit, but must sign a deal with Mistral to sell access. This seems to be a toll gate. Mistral gives the model away, and a cloud that sells access probably needs a deal with Mistral. The source does not give those terms.
